The CTFANY 2015 Summer Meeting will be held on July 17 to 18. The event is hosted by Bob’s Trees and the program is in place with host numerous well-regarded speakers and field demonstrations covering a wide variety of topics. The two-day schedule of workshops offers information for experienced growers as well as those just starting out with Christmas trees.

Members of the Eaton Family, owners of Bob’s Trees and the Meeting’s hosts, will lead wagon tours of their tree farm and nursery operation including perennial garden plants and a lovely farm gift shop known for its lawn and garden décor items.

There will be several DEC-approved one-credit Pesticide Application presentations on the program. Experts from Cornell plan to integrate the farm’s fields into their presentations. Sessions will allow attendees to see first hand various insects and some of the diseases that attack Christmas trees; and learn about ways to treat infestations with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques.

There is a robust Wreath, Greens & Marketing track running both days of the program. Experts in the field will cover both beginning and more advanced wreath-making techniques and trends. A representative from Square will provide a workshop on Point-of-Sale systems and credit card processing. Christina Marzello from NYS Dept. of Labor will present information on documentation and reporting requirements for new hires, seasonal hires, and more.

On Saturday morning, there will be a panel discussion – “If we only knew then what we know now…” New growers can hear first-hand three growers’ perspectives on getting started in the Christmas tree business; and what’s really involved in growing and selling trees.
