Lifelong dairy farmer and maple syrup producer Truman Young Jr., who helped found the Rutland County Maple Producers’ Association, passed away Nov. 23 after a brief illness. Young, who spent his entire life in his birth home of Tinmouth, Vermont, was a long-time director of the Vermont Maple Sugar Makers’ Association.

Young assisted in the creation of the maple producer association and served as its first president. He also was instrumental in building a permanent working sugar house on the grounds of the VT State Fair in Rutland, making it the first state in the country to do so. In 2014, the association dedicated the sugar house to his name.

Calling hours will be held at 4-7 p.m., today at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Tinmouth Community Church.
