Local officials gathered at Jean Bonnet Tavern, Bedford, on May 6 to celebrate May as Beef Month and kick off the Hunger Steak Out, a donation campaign that will benefit the Bedford County food pantries. Acting Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding was on hand to offer remarks and present the official proclamation.

The Pennsylvania Beef Council has teamed up with Jean Bonnet Tavern to commemorate Beef Month by helping support those in need.

As part of the Hunger Steak Out, Jean Bonnet Tavern will feature multiple beef entrées during the month of May and donate a portion of the proceeds from each meal sold. Those dollars will then be used to purchase beef products that will be shared among the six Bedford County food pantries.

“We’re here today because oftentimes the best way to observe and to celebrate something is to give back,” said Redding. “And so I applaud the partnership kicking off here: the Beef Council, based out of Bedford, partnering with the Jean Bonnet Tavern and Bedford Food Outreach. When we work together, everyone benefits.”
