Milk production in Vermont during October 2015 totaled 219 million pounds, down 1 percent from October 2014, according to Gary Keough, State Statistician of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New England Field Office.

Production per cow averaged 1,670 pounds in October, 10 pounds less than October 2014.

The number of milk cows on farms in the State was 131 thousand head, down 1,000 head from October 2014 and unchanged in September 2015.

The average milk price received by Vermont farmers in September 2015 at $18.70 per hundredweight, is up $1.10 August 2015 but down $8.70 from September a year ago.
