Milk production in Vermont during March 2015 totaled 227 million pounds, unchanged from March 2014, according to Gary Keough, State Statistician of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New England Field Office.
Production per cow in the State averaged 1,720 pounds for March, 10 pounds less than March 2014.
The number of milk cows on farms in the State was 132 thousand head, 1,000 head more than March 2014, but unchanged from February 2015.
The average milk price received by Vermont farmers in February 2015 at $18.30 per hundredweight, is down $0.70 from January 2015 and is down $7.50 from February a year ago.
