Milk production in Vermont during June 2015 totaled 226 million pounds, up 0.4 percent from June 2014, according to Gary Keough, State Statistician of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New England Field Office.
Production per cow averaged 1,710 pounds in June, 10 pounds less than June 2014. The number of milk cows on farms in the State was 132 thousand head, up 1,000 head from June 2014, and unchanged from May 2015.
The average milk price received by Vermont farmers in May 2015 at $18.00 per hundredweight, is up $0.20 from April 2015 but down $8.20 from May a year ago.
