Milk production in Vermont during January 2016 totaled 230 million pounds, up 1.8 percent from January 2015, according to Gary Keough, State Statistician of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New England Field Office.

Production per cow averaged 1,755 pounds in January, 45 pounds more than January 2015.

The number of milk cows on farms in the State was 131 thousand head, down 1,000 head from the previous year but unchanged from the previous month.

The average milk price received by Vermont farmers in December 2015 at $19.00 per hundredweight, is down $1.10 from November 2015 and down $3.80 from December a year ago.
