The Center for Dairy Excellence is currently seeking nominations for two open board positions. Candidates must be willing to serve a three-year term and commit to participating in quarterly board meetings and other conference calls as assigned. The open positions are for a dairy producer seat and for an industry professional seat.

“The Center for Dairy Excellence continues to deliver on our mission of empowering people, creating partnerships and coordinating the resources necessary to bring insight and innovation to a dynamic and growing dairy industry,” said John Frey, executive director of the center. “We depend on the leadership of our board members to guide this effort.”

The center’s board has fifteen members: seven representing dairy farms including producer representatives from the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association and the Professional Dairy Managers of Pennsylvania, one dairy processor, two allied industry  representatives, one representing the retail industry, one from a dairy marketing cooperative, one representing Pennsylvania State University, one at-large seat, and one seat for the Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture.

This board brings broad insight from all facets of the industry to developing the Center for Dairy Excellence’s priorities and plan of work. In September, the board voted to expand this breadth of knowledge by adding an additional dairy producer seat and expanding the board to sixteen members. Nominees are being solicited for the new position, along with an industry allied representative seat vacated in December by board member Dr. Brian Reed from Agricultural Veterinarian Associates, who has served on the board since the center was established in 2004.

“Brian has been a tremendous asset to our board. His insight was instrumental in establishing our values, vision and mission at the center and to providing an important barometer of measure for how our efforts benefit the dairy farm community,” said Frey. “We greatly appreciate his ten-year commitment to our board and will miss his leadership at the center.”

To be considered for this position please contact Melissa Anderson at manderson@centerfordairyexcellence.org, or John Frey at jfrey@centerfordairyexcellence.org, or by calling the office at 717-346-0849 by October 30. If you are sending an email, please provide your name, role in the dairy industry and a description of the qualities you believe you would bring to the board.
