The Center for Dairy Excellence has opened enrollment for its on-farm resources and is challenging dairy farmers to leverage the benefits of assembling a team for short and long term planning decisions. Using the center’s Dairy Advisory Team or Dairy Decisions Consultant programs to enlist trusted advisors to provide feedback on strengthening the business and identifying opportunities for increased herd or business performance can lead to improved farm profitability.

“Now is the time to consider 2016 business goals and how the center might be a resource to help you accomplish those,” John Frey, executive director of the Center for Dairy Excellence, said. “The goal of our programs is to help producers take a more formal approach to business evaluation and decision making. Using advisory teams and outside resources to help set goals and create strategies leads to a strengthened business plan for this generation and the next.”

The center is currently accepting applications and can assist you in forming your team, or identifying other resources based on current business needs.

Dairy Decisions Consultants: Dairy farms can receive up to $1,750 to work with a financial consultant to explore options for farm business direction. An application fee of $250 is required with the application, and the producer can choose from one of the Dairy Decisions Consultant listed on the center’s website.

Dairy Profit Teams: Dairy farms with existing profit teams or those establishing a new profit team to work in an advisory role for the farm, can receive up to $2,000 in reimbursements for paid team members and discovery-related costs. Profit teams typically consist of the farm’s most trusted advisors, with a facilitator designated to coordinate the meetings and work flow.

Dairy Transition Teams: This grant is designed to help the farm establish a team to develop a transition or succession plan. Farms can apply to receive up to $3,000 in funding, which could cover the cost of paid team members, discovery-related costs and legal expenses.

Dairy Transformation Teams:  New with the expanded program menu, the Transformation Team option allows producers considering a significant business transformation to apply to receive up to $5,000 to establish a team to help plan and work through that transformation process. A $350 application fee is required with this option.
