The annual State Dairy 4-H Bull Calf Fundraiser is underway and providing farmers with an opportunity to support the University of Vermont (UVM) Extension 4-H dairy program.

4-H’ers will be visiting farms to ask farmers to donate proceeds from the sale of one or more bull calves. All donations are tax-deductible and will enable 4-H members to participate in statewide dairy events as well as opportunities outside Vermont including the National 4-H Dairy Conference, National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl and the Eastern States Exposition 4-H dairy show, among others. More than 400 youths are enrolled in the 4-H dairy project this year.

Farmers who agree to donate one or more calves will be asked to fill out a donation form and will be given a hip tag with the 4-H clover emblem to attach to the sale animal. Once sold, the livestock commission company will send a check to the UVM Extension 4-H office to forward to the UVM Foundation, which will issue a tax receipt for the donor.

Participating sales yards include Addison County Commission Sales, Inc., Middlebury; M & M Livestock, Enosburg Falls; Peter A. Stever, West Fairlee; St. Albans Commission Sales, St. Albans; Towne and Sons Livestock, Morrisville; CambridgeValley Livestock, Inc., Cambridge, New York, and RT Cattle, North Haverhill, New Hampshire.
