The late-October maple event of the North American Maple Syrup Council & IMSI Annual Meetings (Oct. 19-21) will reside this year at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Somerset County, Pennsylvania this year. The four-day meeting will include a maple syrup and confections competition as well as a photo contest.

The meetings will also feature workshops such as “Supply and Demand: The State of Maple Syrup in 2015,” “Modern Marketing Strategies for the Maple Industry,” and “Making and Marketing Birch and Walnut Syrup.” Also planned are technical presentations led by specialist from Cornell University, University of Maine and University of Vermont on subjects from guidelines from maple sap as a seasonal beverage to topics like sanitization and tapping.

“This year, we have tried to include something for everyone. An antique maple display made up of many unique and interesting items will be in one room,” said Matthew Emerick, the conference’s chairman in its welcome statement. “A hospitality room is being planned for those who would like to just sit, relax and chat with other attendees. The workshops and technical presentations should have something for everyone.”

The meetings will feature tours of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Stoystown, Oak Lodge sugar camp in Donegal and local sugarhouses including Brantview Farms, Kinsley Maple, Buffalo Creek Sugar Camp and Paul Bunyan Sugar Camp.
